Measurement & Methodology

Measurement & Methodology

The methods/instruments had been used in the present study were:

  • Anthropometric grid
An anthropometric grid with platform was designed and patented, measuring 213.36 cm x 274.32cm in order to measure 25 body dimensions both standing and sitting posture. The anthropometric grid method been used in the previous study by Siti Nurani, Rosnah, Raemy, Mohd Rizal, & Hari Krishnan (2015).
  • Anthropometer and caliper
  • Measuring tape
  • Handgrip dynamometer
  • Pinch dynamometer
  • Back-Leg-Chest dynamometer

  • Anthropometer and caliper
Martin’s standard anthropometer set including sliding caliper were used to measure 25 body dimensions both sitting and standing posture.
  • Measuring tape
Standard measuring tape with length of 150cm was used to measure six body circumferences. The method of measuring were based on Chester, Rys, & Konz, (2002) and WHO expert Consultation (2008)
  • Static strength measurement
Three static measurements were measured. Pinch strength by using Baseline® Hydraulic Pinch Gauge (Chandra et al., 2007), handgrip strength by using Baseline® Digital Smedley dynamometer (Chandra et al., 2007) and torso lift strength by using Baseline® Back- Leg-Chest dynamometer (Caffin et al., 1978; Mital et al., 2000).
